Education
2004 - One month intensive study of South Indian music in Chennai, Madras, at
Brhaddhvani Institute with Dr. Karaikudi S. Subramanian.
1995 - 1997   Master of Arts Degree in Music from Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, New York, studied with Sir Roland Hanna and Jimmy Heath
1994 - 1995   Studied with Ron Carter at the graduate program at City College (CUNY), New York
1988 - 1992   Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Music from the Jazz & Contemporary Music Program at New School University, New York, graduated summa cum laude. Studied with Kenwood Dennard, Bernard Purdie, Keith Copland, Jerry Gonzales, Kenny Werner, Cecil Bridgewater, Gil Goldstein, Vic Juris, Jim Hall, and many others.
1986 - 1987   Studied classical percussion with Christoph Caskel at the Rheinische Musikschule Cologne, Germany. Private Brazilian percussion courses with Achim Fischer, Cologne; Dudu Tucci, Berlin; Nicia D'Avila, Paris

1997 - 2002 Performed with Cyro Baptista’s 10 piece percussion extravaganza "Beat the Donkey", toured Holland and Belgium (Big Bang Percussion Festival); Willisau Jazz Festival, Switzerland; Guimaraes Jazz Festival, Culturgest in Lisbon, Portugal; and Fairfax University, Virginia. NYC performances with "BTD" include the Guggenheim Museum, the NY Stock Exchange, Bowery Ball Room, Tonic, Brooklyn Museum; Central Park/Summerstage; SOB’s and Knitting Factory. Live shows included special guests John Zorn, Marc Ribot, David Brosa and Cibo Mato.
1992 – 2002 Led my own percussion ensemble "Sambanditos". Performance of my compositions and arrangements with this group around New York City, including performances at Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, Museum of Modern Art, Princeton University, New School University, and for several United Nations events.
1996 - Performed with and led a Brazilian percussion group at Carnegie Hall. Played percussion for the opera "The Other Wise Man" by Stephania de Kenessy.
1992 - 1995 Played percussion for the Japanese group "Pizzicato Five". Performed with and directed "Kenwood Dennard's Meta Rhythmic Troupe" at the Modern Drummer Festival '95. Also performed with Joe McGinty, David McLary,
"Kit McClure Big Band".
1988 - 1992 Performed extensively with
the rock band "Maria Excommunikata", all over the US (i. e. opening up for "Blondie" Debbie Harry and the "Tom Tom Club"). Many radio shows
1984 - 1987 Co-founder of the group "Sambanditos" in Germany, Pori Jazz Festival, Finnland; numerous concerts in Cologne
